Report Cards: Not Just Numbers, but Self-Reflection and Growth

Friday, 10 October 2025, was a meaningful day for the students of Al Siddiq International Secondary School. On this day, the school held its Mid-Semester Report (STS) distribution, marking the end of one phase of learning and the beginning of self-evaluation. The morning atmosphere at school felt different—filled with enthusiasm, curiosity, and hope. Every student arrived with excitement, eager to see the results of their efforts throughout the first half of the semester. However, for Al Siddiq, a report card is not merely a sheet of numbers that display academic scores. More than that, it is a mirror reflecting a student’s learning journey. It serves as a tool for students, teachers, and parents to see how much potential has been realised, and where there is still room for improvement. In their remarks, teachers emphasised that grades are not the ultimate goal but signposts on the path towards becoming better individuals. Each student was encouraged to view their report card as a means of self-reflection. The numbers written are simply the result of effort, while what truly matters is how the students understand and appreciate the learning process behind them. For those with good results, it is a trust to be maintained; for those whose results are not yet optimal, it is an opportunity to grow and improve. This attitude aligns with Islamic values that emphasise muhasabah—self-reflection—as a means towards self-betterment. Teachers also encouraged students not to dwell on satisfaction or disappointment, but to use their report cards as material for evaluation in preparation for the upcoming Final Semester Examinations (UAS). With renewed determination and enthusiasm for learning, every student is expected to enhance their achievements—not only academically but also in character, discipline, and responsibility. True learning is a continuous process that weaves together effort, prayer, and self-evaluation. Through this report distribution moment, Al Siddiq International Secondary School aims to instil the message that education is not about who is the smartest, but who strives the most to improve themselves. A report card is merely a measuring tool, while true value lies in one’s attitude and spirit to keep learning. With this awareness, it is hoped that all students will step forward towards the Final Examinations with greater maturity, stronger determination, and a purer intention.By Khalid Abdullah, Lc

Observing the Potential of Al-Siddiq International Secondary School Students

SMP Al-Siddiq International School remains committed to improving the quality of education and character development among its students through a variety of innovative programmes. One of the regular initiatives held every Wednesday morning is the Student Profiling activity. This programme aims to monitor each student’s academic, social, and emotional development, while also helping them to optimise their personal potential. The Student Profiling sessions involve form teachers, subject teachers, and guidance counsellors, who engage directly with the students. Each teacher is given the opportunity to share observations, discuss challenges encountered, and collaborate on strategies to enhance both learning outcomes and personal growth. During these sessions, teachers not only assess academic performance but also identify students’ interests, talents, and specific needs, in order to provide more targeted guidance. In addition, students are encouraged to reflect on their own behaviour and achievements, helping them become more aware of their strengths and areas for improvement. This Student Profiling programme is also part of the Learning Community at SMP Al-Siddiq International School. Within this community, every teacher plays an active role in supporting a more personalised and effective learning process. Each Profiling meeting is recorded in detail, covering aspects such as academic progress, student interests, and recommendations for future development. This ensures that every student’s growth is monitored consistently and continuously. The outcomes of the Student Profiling sessions are then summarised in a comprehensive report presented to both the school management and parents. The report includes evaluations of students’ strengths, challenges, and suggested strategies for maximising their potential. Through this approach, the school aims to create an adaptive learning environment that supports student success—both academically and in terms of character development.
