A Little Adventure in the Universe!
The Kindergarten B pupils of Al Siddiq International took part in a four-day Project-Based Learning (PJBL) activity themed Solar System, held from Monday to Thursday, 20–23 October 2025. The activity took place in each classroom under the guidance of their homeroom teachers. Through this project, the children were encouraged to learn about the solar system in a creative and enjoyable way, while also developing their motor skills, teamwork, and confidence in presenting their work. The main goal of this activity was to introduce the basic concept of the solar system to young learners, while also nurturing their creativity and understanding through hands-on experiences. The children not only learnt the names and order of the planets, but also explored their relative sizes, colours, and orbital positions within the solar system. The project was designed to spark curiosity and inspire a sense of exploration in science and the universe. On Monday, the children began by creating planet shapes from crumpled recycled paper, moulding them according to each planet’s size. For example, Jupiter was made the largest, while Mercury was the smallest. This activity aimed to help them understand planetary size differences in a concrete way, rather than only through pictures. On Tuesday, the children painted their planets using acrylic paints. The colours were chosen based on examples provided by the teachers — red for Mars, bluish-green for Earth, and golden yellow for Saturn. The children were very enthusiastic in choosing colours and paying attention to details to make their planets look as realistic as possible. Wednesday’s session focused on making the sun and the planetary orbits. The children painted a bright, cheerful sun, then drew circular orbits where the planets would later be placed. Thursday marked the highlight of the project, when the children attached their planets to the orbits using glue guns, assisted by the teachers. Afterwards, each child had the opportunity to briefly present their artwork in front of their classmates. The PJBL Solar System activity became a fun and meaningful learning experience for the children. They gained valuable lessons not only about the solar system but also about cooperation, creativity, and confidence in expressing themselves. Through project-based learning like this, the pupils’ enthusiasm for learning grows naturally, filled with curiosity and joy for discovery.By Inka Amalia, S.Pd
