Qur’an Munaqosyah: An Effort to Preserve Mutqin Memorisation and Shape Qur’anic Character

Al Siddiq International School once again organised an important programme in nurturing students’ Qur’anic character through the Qur’an Munaqosyah, held from Monday to Friday, 9–13 February 2026. This activity is one of the school’s flagship programmes aimed at ensuring that the quality of students’ Qur’an memorisation is maintained at an optimal level.

Munaqosyah is a comprehensive evaluation process of the Qur’an memorisation possessed by the students. During this activity, each participant is directly assessed by the Munaqosyah Team, consisting of examiners who are highly competent in the fields of tahfizh (Qur’an memorisation) and Qur’anic studies. The students are required to recite their memorised verses in a tartil manner while also responding to various forms of testing that assess the strength and accuracy of their memorisation.

The implementation of munaqosyah is not merely a means of academic evaluation but also serves broader educational purposes. Through this activity, the school seeks to measure students’ Qur’an memorisation objectively while also assessing the accuracy of their application of tajwid and the correct articulation (makhraj) of each letter in the verses they recite. With a systematic assessment process, the students’ memorisation can be ensured to reach the level of mutqin—memorisation that is strong, fluent, and accurately preserved.

In addition, munaqosyah also functions as a medium for developing the students’ mental resilience. By reciting in front of the examiners, students are trained to develop confidence, composure, and mental readiness in presenting their Qur’an memorisation openly. This experience is expected to help build strong character while also improving discipline in maintaining their memorisation.

Furthermore, the munaqosyah serves as a standardisation process for graduation within the Qur’an tahfizh programme at Al Siddiq International School. Every memorisation achievement attained by the students must go through a strict verification process, ensuring that the quality of graduates remains consistent and meets clearly defined standards.

More than just an assessment process, munaqosyah also serves as a meaningful moment to deepen students’ love for the Qur’an. Through the processes of memorising, preserving, and testing their memorisation, students are encouraged to realise that the Qur’an is not only meant to be memorised, but also to be understood, preserved, and practised in daily life.

As one of the flagship programmes of Al Siddiq International School, the munaqosyah demonstrates the school’s commitment to nurturing a generation that excels not only academically but also maintains a strong connection with the Qur’an. Through continuous guidance and development, it is hoped that the students will grow into a Qur’anic generation with noble character, strong knowledge, and the ability to contribute positively to society.
