Friday is a beautiful and blessed day. On Friday, 27 September 2024, SD Al Siddiq International School held its Friday Sharing (Jumat Berbagi) activity, which was joined by all students from Year 1 to Year 5, taking place in their respective classrooms.
The Friday Sharing activity is a monthly event where students share food with others within the school community. The aim of this programme is to instil the habit of sharing, foster a sense of care for others, and encourage compassion among students.
At SD Al Siddiq International School, the Friday Sharing activity takes place both inside and outside the classroom. Students bring food from home to share with their classmates, which is collected under the supervision of their class teachers. Once all the food has been gathered, the students enjoy their meals together during break time. Afterwards, they distribute food to other members of the Al Siddiq International School community.
The Principal of SD Al Siddiq International School, Ms Reni Oktavia, S.Si., M.Pd., stated,
“The Friday Sharing Programme is not only about giving, but also about opening our hearts to care, empathise, and show love to others.”
One of the Qur’an teachers at Al Siddiq International School, Ustadzah Fanni Bangkit, Lc., also shared her thoughts on the event, saying,
“Friday is a day filled with blessings. It is a day when Muslims gather together. Therefore, giving charity on a Friday is a good act, as Allah multiplies the rewards for those who give.”
Teaching children to share is not an easy task. The sense of empathy and generosity does not appear instantly—it grows through a process of consistent practice and habituation. It is hoped that through the Friday Sharing activity, students of SD Al Siddiq International School will become accustomed to sharing, nurturing empathy towards others, and embodying the values of Pancasila, such as humanity, unity, and social justice.
