Developing Students’ Public Speaking Skills through Friday Morning Short Sermons at SMP Al-Siddiq International

SMP Al-Siddiq International continues to show its commitment to developing students’ potential not only in academics but also in communication skills and Islamic character. One of these efforts is realized through the regular Friday morning short sermon (kultum) program, which serves as a platform for students to practice public speaking.
The Friday morning kultum was held on Friday, January 23rd, 2026, on the second floor of the school mosque, immediately after the morning dhikr at 07.00 a.m. The dhikr was led by Ust. Abdul Aziz, S.Pd, followed by the delivery of short sermons by selected students.
The first kultum was delivered by Zachary Akbar Kumara and Sadad Kamil from Grade 7 Boys. They discussed the special virtues of the months of Rajab and Sha’ban, as well as the importance of preparing oneself to welcome the holy month of Ramadan. This session provided valuable experience for seventh-grade students to speak confidently in front of an audience.
The program continued with a duet sermon presented by Raisafa Saffir Audyra and Alanza Lareina Clarissa from Grade 8 Girls. They raised the topic of the dangers of gossip (ghibah) and delivered the message using relatable examples from daily life, making it easy for the audience to understand.
The event was concluded with a duet sermon by the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the Student Council (OSIS) of SMP Al-Siddiq International, Azka Fakhri Arkananta and Muhammad Kautsar Mehaga Perangin-angin from Grade 8 Boys. Their sermon focused on maintaining brotherhood among Muslims, emphasizing unity and harmony within the school community.
Through the Friday morning kultum activities, it is hoped that students of SMP Al-Siddiq International will become more confident in public speaking, capable of delivering Islamic messages effectively, and grow into a generation that is knowledgeable, faithful, and well-mannered.
