Parenting Seminar 2023

The Parenting Seminar 2023 was held on Sunday, June 25, 2023, featuring national parenting expert Irwan Rinaldi, popularly known as Ayah Irwan, as the keynote speaker. Also present was national da’i Ustadz Dr. Attabik Luthfi, MA.

The seminar, themed “The Art of Educating Children Within the Family”, was attended by more than 130 participants who enthusiastically engaged from beginning to end. As part of its service to parents, Al Siddiq International School also provided a dedicated kids zone, allowing children to play and explore creatively while their parents attended the sessions.

Parenting Approaches to Nurture Righteous Children

On this occasion, Ayah Irwan highlighted the importance of instilling noble character in children from an early age, as character education cannot be delayed. Parents, teachers, and adults around children must serve as positive role models, prioritize character education, and provide inspiration.

He further emphasized the need for parents to build a strong spiritual bond with Allah SWT, to establish a clear vision, mission, and marital strategy, and to align principles and parenting approaches between husband and wife. According to him, raising righteous children must follow the divine design of Allah SWT. Parents are encouraged to maximize their children’s golden moments by striving to instill Islamic values through teaching, experiencing, and preserving them consistently.

Educating Children from the Qur’anic Perspective

The second speaker, Ustadz Dr. Attabik Luthfi, MA, elaborated on how the Qur’an views the significance of nurturing children and provides guidance on parenting. He explained that akhlaq (moral character) is the true measure of human goodness, and that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), with his noble character, remains the best role model for Muslims.

“The piety of a child is the greatest gratitude for parents. Therefore, we as parents must be earnest in fulfilling our duty to educate our children,” said Ustadz Attabik. He added that the righteousness of parents brings positive benefits, as Allah also grants protection to their children.

The Qur’an outlines various approaches to parenting across several surahs. By adhering to its guidance, children’s good character can be nurtured. Ustadz Attabik mentioned several essential traits:

  • the character of speech, always being truthful and kind,
  • the character of the heart, marked by humility,
  • patience in social interactions,
  • strong mental and physical resilience,
  • forgiveness,
  • emotional self-control,
  • zuhud (detachment from worldly excess),
  • qana’ah (contentment), and
  • wara’ (avoiding doubtful matters).

Closing

This parenting seminar was expected to broaden parents’ insights into child-rearing, highlighting that Islam and the Qur’an already provide comprehensive guidance on cultivating akhlaqul karimah (noble character).
