Introduction to the Fifth Pillar of Islam

The Introduction to the Fifth Pillar of Islam activity was carried out by the kindergarten students of TK Al Siddiq on Thursday, 7 May 2026. This programme was one of the educational learning activities designed to introduce children to the pilgrimage of Hajj from an early age in a fun, interactive, and easy-to-understand manner. The entire activity took place on the Al Siddiq field and the first-floor area, which had been specially arranged to resemble the atmosphere of the Hajj pilgrimage as a means of introducing the fifth pillar of Islam. The activity was attended by all TK Al Siddiq students with great enthusiasm and excitement. Two days before the event, the teachers distributed ihram cloths to the students as preparation for the activity. Male students were asked to wear their ihram garments from home on the day of the programme so that the atmosphere would feel more authentic and provide a memorable learning experience for the children. Before the programme began, all students gathered in their classrooms for a briefing session with the teachers. During this session, the teachers explained the purpose of the activity, the educational benefits, and the sequence of activities that would take place from beginning to end. The explanations were delivered in simple and enjoyable language so that the children could easily understand them. The activity aimed to instil Islamic values, introduce the basic procedures of Hajj worship, and develop courage, discipline, and togetherness among the students. After the briefing, the students were guided to the activity area to take part in a series of activities introducing the fifth pillar of Islam. The programme began with a group photo session in front of a miniature Ka‘bah prepared by the committee and teachers. Afterwards, the children participated in various simple simulations representing the stages of the Hajj pilgrimage, with teachers assisting at each activity station. All activities were designed in an educational and enjoyable way so that the children could learn while playing.Through this programme, it is hoped that the students of TK Al Siddiq will gain a better understanding of one of the pillars of Islam through a fun and memorable experience. In addition to increasing religious knowledge, the activity also provided benefits in developing children’s character, such as discipline, patience, orderliness, independence, and the ability to follow instructions properly. The children also learned to help one another and maintain togetherness throughout the programme. As a closing activity, the teachers distributed souvenirs to all students as a form of appreciation for their enthusiasm and participation during the event. After the programme had concluded, the students prepared to return home from school, bringing with them a new and memorable learning experience. It is hoped that this activity will become one of the beneficial learning methods for instilling Islamic values in children from an early age. By Inka Amalia, S.Pd

Science Practicals: Encouraging Students’ Analytical Thinking and Innovation through Cambridge Learning

As part of the implementation of the Cambridge Assessment International Education curriculum, SMP Al Siddiq International School continues to provide learning experiences that encourage students to become active, creative, and innovative in facing future global challenges. The Cambridge curriculum is widely recognised for emphasising the development of analytical thinking, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Through this approach, students are not only taught to understand theories, but are also trained to think critically, discover solutions, and apply learning concepts in real-life situations. One clear implementation of this approach could be seen in the science practical activity conducted by Year 7 students in the Science Laboratory of SMP Al Siddiq International School. The activity was directly guided by the school’s science teacher, Muhammad Fathul Ihsan, M.Res, who is also a doctoral candidate at a university in Tokyo, Japan. During the practical session, students carried out experiments on electric currents using batteries and simple electrical circuits. The learning process was conducted through group work, allowing students to discuss, exchange ideas, and collaborate in completing the assigned projects. Through this practical activity, students were encouraged to understand how scientific concepts are directly applied in learning. They not only memorised theories, but also learned to conduct observations, analyse results, and solve problems through scientific experimentation. This science practical programme represents one form of learning that aligns closely with the vision of the Cambridge curriculum, namely to nurture students who possess critical thinking skills, creativity, and the ability to innovate. In addition, project-based learning also helps to develop students’ self-confidence, communication abilities, and collaboration skills. Through direct science practical activities in the laboratory, SMP Al Siddiq International School hopes to inspire a new generation with strong interests in research and technology, while also opening opportunities for future scientists and researchers who are ready to compete on a global level.By Retno Suzanne Handa, Lc, M.Pd

Learning about the Water Cycle through an Experiment

The rain experiment activity was carried out by the Kindergarten B students of Al Siddiq International on Monday, 4 May 2026, in the science classroom. This activity was one of the simple science lessons designed to introduce children to the process of how rain occurs in an engaging, enjoyable, and easy-to-understand way. Through this experiment, the children were able to learn directly by observing the changes that took place during the activity. Before the activity began, the teacher first prepared the tools and materials to be used, namely two plastic cups, cotton wool, drawing pins, hot water, ice cubes, and blue-coloured water. The teacher then explained the function of each item to the students using simple language so that the children could better understand the purpose of the experiment. The children appeared enthusiastic and curious to follow every stage of the activity. During the experiment, the teacher asked the children to help make small holes in the plastic cups using drawing pins under close supervision to ensure safety. Afterwards, cotton wool was placed inside the bottom of the plastic cup to represent clouds. Ice cubes were then placed on top of the cotton wool, while another cup was filled with hot water to symbolise seawater evaporating due to the heat of the sun. The teacher then dripped blue-coloured water onto the ice cubes until water droplets slowly appeared, resembling rainfall. Through this experiment, the children learned that rain occurs through the processes of water evaporation, cooling, and the formation of water droplets that eventually fall to the earth. By directly observing this simple process, the students found it easier to understand the concept of rainfall compared to learning through theory alone. The activity also helped develop the children’s ability to observe, ask questions, and understand cause-and-effect relationships in natural processes. The aim of this rain experiment was to introduce simple scientific concepts to children from an early age, particularly the process of how rain is formed. In addition, the activity sought to increase curiosity, encourage simple thinking skills, and build children’s confidence in trying new things. The children were also encouraged to take a more active role during the learning process. The benefits of this activity were highly valuable for children’s development, both in terms of knowledge and skills. The children learned through direct experience, making the learning process more enjoyable and memorable. Furthermore, the experiment also helped develop fine motor skills, concentration, teamwork, and the ability to follow the teacher’s instructions. Through activities such as this, it is hoped that children will become increasingly interested in learning science and gaining a better understanding of the world around them.By Inka Amalia, S.Pd

SMP Al Siddiq International School conducted the Practical Examination (Ujian Praktik/Uprak) for Year 9 students from Monday to Friday, 4–8 May 2026, within the school premises of SMP Al Siddiq International School. This activity formed an important part of the students’ learning evaluation process as a means of assessing their competencies, practical skills, and readiness before completing their secondary school education. The practical examination did not merely focus on academic theory, but also evaluated students’ ability to apply their knowledge directly through various educational, creative, and practical activities. A variety of practical tasks were carried out throughout the programme, including prayer practice sessions aimed at strengthening students’ understanding of worship and fostering their spiritual character. In addition, students participated in a creative skills activity by making bags from canvas fabric, which were then decorated using paint or batik motifs based on their own creativity. This activity helped develop students’ creativity, precision, and artistic abilities. In the field of sports, students undertook swimming practice as part of developing physical ability, self-endurance, and sporting skills. Meanwhile, in science lessons, students carried out simple experiments related to electric currents using batteries and basic electrical circuits to better understand the practical application of science concepts in everyday life. Throughout the activities, the students demonstrated great enthusiasm and high spirits. They learned to be responsible, independent, disciplined, and confident in completing each practical task assigned by the examiners. This Practical Examination programme also served as a platform for students to develop creative thinking, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and life skills that will be highly beneficial in their future lives.
