Do We Need an Umbrella to Learn Addition?

A mathematics lesson for TK B (Kindergarten B) at Al Siddiq International was conducted on Tuesday, 28th April 2026 in the classroom. The activity was attended by all TK B pupils in an active and enjoyable atmosphere. From the very beginning, the teacher had prepared learning aids to help the children understand the material in a more concrete and accessible way. The main objective of this lesson was to introduce the concepts of sequential counting and simple arithmetic addition. This material serves as an important foundation for children as preparation before entering primary school. With an age-appropriate approach, the children were expected not only to memorise numbers but also to understand their meaning. The activity began with a group game involving direct interaction. The teacher invited the children to stick pictures of raindrops onto an umbrella that had been prepared. Each child was asked to attach a number of raindrops according to the teacher’s instructions, allowing them to learn counting step by step while playing. Through this activity, the children appeared enthusiastic and found it easier to understand the concept of sequential counting. They also learned to cooperate with their group members, take turns, and follow instructions properly. The teacher provided guidance gradually so that each child could participate without feeling rushed. After the game, the activity continued with completing worksheets on single-digit addition. This exercise helped the children strengthen their understanding of simple addition. By combining play-based learning with written practice, the lesson became more balanced and effective in supporting the development of the children’s numeracy skills.By Inka Amalia, S. Pd

Boundless Creativity – Al Siddiq Junior High School Students Bring the Perkajum Night to Life with Meaningful Performances

The atmosphere of the Perkajum Night at Al Siddiq International Junior High School was transformed into a vibrant stage of expression filled with colour and meaning. Under the theme “Boundless Creativity”, the students presented a variety of performances that were not only entertaining, but also rich in moral, social, and humanitarian messages. During this activity, the students were divided into several groups. Each group showcased their finest work, ranging from musical drama, a dramatisation of the struggle of Palestine, poetry recitations, to thematic performances on women’s emancipation, anti-bullying, and humanitarian values. One of the most remarkable performances was a musical drama portraying the journey of a young girl striving to achieve her dreams. Brilliantly played by Florin as the main character, the story illustrated conflict within a family that still upheld patriarchal views—that women did not need to pursue higher education and should remain within the domestic sphere. However, with the support of her mother and strong determination, the main character succeeded in proving that women are capable of achieving their dreams and surpassing the limits long imposed upon them. This journey eventually changed the father’s perspective, delivering a powerful message about the importance of equality and family support. The performance concluded with the song Meraih Bintang (Reaching for the Stars), which further enlivened the stage, making it grand, emotional, and inspiring. Equally moving was the dramatisation about Palestine, which portrayed resilience and perseverance while also highlighting the important role of women within that struggle. The strong humanitarian message deeply touched the audience and broadened the students’ understanding of global realities. The poetry performance by Year 8 student, Khumaira Nairi Altafunnisa, also became a highlight of the evening. With deep emotion and strong expression, she delivered a message of women’s emancipation with sincerity and profound meaning. Meanwhile, the male students’ group also presented performances addressing themes of emancipation, bullying, and oppression. They emphasised that in Islamic teachings, women hold a highly honourable position and must be respected. This message was delivered in a communicative and touching manner, reflecting the students’ maturity of thought and social awareness. More than simply an arts performance, this activity also served as a means of character building through scouting values. Through group-based activities (barung/regu), students were trained to demonstrate discipline, responsibility in completing tasks, teamwork, honesty, and care for others. The role of scouting as an instrument of character development was clearly evident throughout the series of activities. This Perkajum Night was not only a platform for showcasing talents, but also a space for nurturing courage, creativity, and life values. Al Siddiq Junior High School once again proved that education is not solely about academics, but also about shaping a generation that is principled, critical-minded, and noble-hearted.
