Al Siddiq International Primary School once again held a lively celebration commemorating the Maulid of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This year’s celebration was not only an opportunity to remember the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), but was also enriched with a variety of educational and inspiring activities that actively involved the students.
One of the highlights of the Maulid celebration was a series of Islamic competitions. These activities were designed to provide students with enjoyable learning experiences while nurturing their love for the Holy Qur’an, worship, and the noble values taught by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Through these competitions, students were given the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities, courage, creativity, and understanding of various aspects of Islamic teachings. The participants took part enthusiastically in competitions covering the Qur’an, worship, Adhan, Islamic knowledge, and creative activities.
Strengthening Love for the Holy Qur’an
One of the main focuses of this year’s Maulid activities was to strengthen students’ love and connection with the Holy Qur’an. This was encouraged through the Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) and Musabaqah Hifzhil Qur’an (MHQ) competitions.
The MTQ & MHQ Akhwat competitions were held in Classroom 1C, whilst the MTQ & MHQ Ikhwan categories took place in Classroom 1D. The participants demonstrated their best abilities in reciting and memorising verses from the Holy Qur’an.
These activities were not merely competitions, but also provided an opportunity to appreciate students who have made consistent efforts to maintain their connection with the Qur’an. Through MTQ and MHQ, students were encouraged to continue improving their Qur’anic recitation and gradually increasing their memorisation.
In addition to MTQ and MHQ, the Nuroniyyah Akhwat & Ikhwan Competition was held in Classroom 2B. This competition formed part of the school’s efforts to strengthen students’ foundational Qur’anic reading skills and establish a strong foundation for Qur’anic learning from an early age.
Learning and Practising Worship
The Maulid celebration also provided an opportunity for students to strengthen their understanding and practice of Islamic worship in their daily lives.
This was demonstrated through the Adhan Competition for Ikhwan, held in Classroom 1A. The participants demonstrated their ability to deliver the Adhan with appropriate vocal delivery, pronunciation, and posture.
In addition to the Adhan competition, students’ ability to perform worship correctly was assessed through the Congregational Prayer Competition. The Ikhwan participants took part on the first floor of the mosque, whilst the Akhwat participants competed on the second floor.
Through this activity, students not only learnt the correct procedures for performing prayer but also developed an understanding of the importance of discipline, order, devotion, and togetherness in worship.
There were also Wudhu Competitions, with the Ikhwan category held at the first-floor ablution area and the Akhwat category at the second-floor ablution area. Participants demonstrated their ability to perform wudhu correctly and in the proper order.
Practical activities such as these help students understand that Islamic teachings should not only be studied theoretically in the classroom but also practised consistently in everyday life.
Developing Courage and Creativity
The Maulid celebration at Al Siddiq International Primary School was not limited to competitions directly related to worship. The school also provided opportunities for students to develop their communication skills, creativity, and thinking abilities through a variety of activities.
One of these was the Poetry Competition for Akhwat, held in the school library. Through this competition, students were encouraged to express their feelings, ideas, and love for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through creative performances and poetry.
Students’ thinking skills and Islamic knowledge were also developed through the Quiz Competition, held in Classrooms 3C and 3D. Participants were challenged to answer a range of questions quickly and accurately. In addition to expanding their knowledge, the activity developed concentration, confidence, teamwork, and decision-making skills.
For Years 3, 4, and 6, a Crossword Puzzle Competition was held in Classroom 1B. The activity was presented in a fun and engaging way, allowing students to learn and play whilst developing their thinking skills and knowledge.
Meanwhile, Years 1 and 2 students had the opportunity to express their creativity through a Colouring Competition held in Classroom 2A. With great imagination and enthusiasm, the participants expressed their creativity through colours and artwork.
More Than Just a Competition
The wide range of competitions organised as part of the Maulid celebration had a broader purpose than simply determining winners.
Each activity was designed as part of the school’s character education programme. Students learnt to be courageous, confident, disciplined, cooperative, respectful towards their peers, gracious in accepting results, and committed to good sportsmanship.
For students who achieved winning positions, the awards served as recognition of their efforts and abilities. However, for every participant, having the courage to take part and perform in front of others was itself an achievement worthy of appreciation.
These values are closely aligned with the teachings and exemplary character of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Maulid celebration is intended to go beyond a ceremonial occasion and become a meaningful opportunity to instil noble character and the exemplary values of the Prophet into students’ daily lives.
The event also reflects Al Siddiq International Primary School’s commitment to developing an educational environment that does not focus solely on academic achievement, but also places strong emphasis on character development and Islamic values.
Through activities such as these, the school hopes that its students will grow into a generation that loves the Holy Qur’an, is devoted to worship, has the confidence to develop their potential, and demonstrates noble character inspired by the example of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
