Science learning becomes far more meaningful when pupils are able to see, touch, and experience the concepts they study firsthand. This was precisely the experience of the Grade 3 pupils at Al Siddiq International Primary School as they took part in a simple science experiment for the topic “Plants are Living Things”.
During this activity, the pupils planted mung bean seeds to observe the process of plant growth. With great enthusiasm, they prepared the planting medium, sowed the seeds, and learnt how to care for them so that they could grow healthily.
Throughout the experiment, the pupils observed the changes in the mung bean seeds day by day. They discovered that plants are living things because they grow, require water and air to survive, and respond to the environment around them.
This practical activity not only enabled the pupils to understand scientific concepts in a more concrete and meaningful way, but also developed their observation skills, critical thinking, and natural curiosity about the world around them. Hands-on learning experiences such as this make science enjoyable while reinforcing the concepts taught in the classroom.
Through simple experiments like this, Al Siddiq International Primary School remains committed to providing active, interactive, and meaningful learning experiences. It is hoped that firsthand learning opportunities will inspire pupils to develop a lasting interest in science while fostering a greater appreciation for the environment and the living things that share it.
