Spelling Bee with a Native Speaker: Developing Students’ English Language Skills and Confidence

BEKASI — Language is a window to the world, and having the confidence to use it is the first step towards exploring the future. This spirit was at the heart of the Spelling Bee Training with a Native Speaker, held at SMP Al-Siddiq International on Tuesday, 27 October 2026.

Taking place in the classrooms of SMP Al-Siddiq International, the activity was enthusiastically attended by all students. In collaboration with English One as the event partner, the training featured Mr Beth, a native English speaker, who provided students with a direct, interactive and enjoyable English language learning experience.

Learning Language, Sharpening Minds and Building Confidence

The classroom came alive as students were encouraged to recognise, listen to, pronounce and spell English vocabulary accurately. Every letter they pronounced was more than just a sequence of sounds; it was an exercise in accuracy, concentration, memory and confidence.

Through the Spelling Bee method, students were trained to expand their vocabulary, improve pronunciation accuracy, and strengthen their listening and reading skills. They also learnt to recognise the relationship between sounds and letters, an essential skill in developing good English language proficiency.

Furthermore, this activity encouraged students to think quickly, remember the correct spelling of words and maintain their focus when faced with challenges. Mistakes were not regarded as failures, but rather as part of the learning journey towards greater achievement.

Building Confidence, One Letter at a Time

The presence of a native English speaker provided students with a valuable and unique learning experience. They had the opportunity to hear English pronunciation directly from a native speaker whilst becoming more accustomed to interacting in an international learning environment.

Through these exercises, students did not simply learn how to spell words; they also developed the courage to speak, manage their nervousness, appreciate the learning process and demonstrate good sportsmanship.

After all, language proficiency is not merely about how many words one can memorise, but also about having the courage to express ideas and the confidence to communicate with the wider world.

SMP Al-Siddiq International’s Commitment to Developing Globally-Minded Learners

The Spelling Bee training represents one of SMP Al-Siddiq International’s commitments to providing an educational experience that integrates academic development, international language skills and character building.

Through its collaboration with English One, the school continues to create opportunities for innovative and meaningful learning. The presence of a native speaker serves as a bridge between the theories learnt in the classroom and practical communication in real-life situations.

This activity also reinforces the idea that English language learning should not be limited to textbooks and memorisation. Students need practical experiences, opportunities to put their knowledge into practice and a supportive environment in which they can grow into communicative, independent and confident individuals.

In an increasingly interconnected world, English proficiency is an important asset for young people, enabling them to access knowledge, build networks and face global challenges.

Spelling Bee is more than just a spelling exercise; it is a small journey towards achieving great dreams. From a single letter comes accuracy, from a single word emerges courage, and from a simple classroom, a pathway opens towards a world without limits.

Through consistent educational initiatives, SMP Al-Siddiq International continues to strive towards nurturing a Qur’anic generation that is intelligent, well-mannered, confident and ready to compete on the global stage.
